THE MIGHTY "H"
On the 13th of December in '44,
Jap planes were above us,
One would say by the score,
And there in the heart,
Of the Sulu Sea,
Was the MIGHTY "H",
A fighting "DD".
At seventeen hundred,
Of that unlucky day,
A plane was hit,
And headed our way,
He was doing full speed,
three hundred or more,
And in less than 10 seconds,
Into us he tore.
His bomb exploded,
With a bursting crack,
Destroying completely,
Our number one stack,
Many friends were taken,
From both you and me,
As the MIGHTY "H" lay crippled,
In the Sulu Sea.
In a matter of minutes,
Fifty one to be true,
The fire was controlled,
By a gallant crew.
We were back underway,
To rejoin our force,
As a message come through,
"Reverse your course".
Our orders were to return,
To a base for repair,
It was known by all hands,
We had done our share,
Our goal is revenge,
To the dishonorable Nip,
And the MIGHTY "H" will do it,
For she is a fighting ship.
